Quantum Learning FADE Model

A key Quantum Learning frame is FADE. By using the FADE model we build:

a strong Foundation of aligned principles, beliefs, agreements, policies and rules (community)
an empowering Atmosphere of trust, safety and a sense of belonging
a dynamic and engaging curriculum Design
a supportive Environment that enhances the learning

Following are a few of the concepts and strategies within FADE:
FOUNDATION - Includes our 8 Keys of Excellence. Teachers weave the 8 Keys of Excellence (or other schoolwide set of principles) throughout their curriculum. The Keys include: Integrity, Failure Leads to Success, Speak with Good Purpose, This Is It!, Commitment, Ownership, Flexibility and Balance.

Quantum Learning embodies five Tenets:

Everything Speaks: Everything from surroundings and tone of voice to distribution of materials sends a message about learning.
Everything is On Purpose: Everything we do has an intended purpose.
Experience Before Label: Our brains thrive on complex stimulation. It drives the need to know. Therefore, learning happens best when students experience the information in some aspect (creating or connecting to prior schema) before they acquire the labels for what was learned.
Acknowledge Every Effort: Learning involves risk-taking. Acknowledgment of each step encourages learning.
If It's Worth Learning, It's Worth Celebrating: Celebration provides feedback regarding progress and increases positive emotional associations with the learning.

ATMOSPHERE - Includes establishing engaging, focused traditions and other strategies to create a sense of belonging and safety. It is an effective strategy for classroom management, focusing attention and motivating students to increase participation in learning. The Prime Directive of QL is that when we first build authentic bridges into our students' lives, we better engage and connect them to the content.

DESIGN - Quantum Learning's Lesson Design Frame was formulated from many years of research on the effective delivery of content and is the structural frame upon which content is built. Curriculum is designed to increase student engagement, participation and mastery. Activities facilitate success through gradient levels from low risk-taking rehearsal to high-risk individual performance. Strategies to build competency include chunking information into smaller segments and multi-sensory reviews.

ENVIRONMENT - The brain is constantly flooded with stimuli, and it chooses a particular focus moment by moment. Quantum Learning creates environments that support effective learning by paying attention to elements including: seating arrangements, peripherals that create curiosity and reinforce content, props, lighting, temperature, order/cleanliness, and the use of music to support state management and focus.

Quantum Learning includes the latest brain research and applications to learning and teaching. It trains teachers in effective presentation, facilitation and classroom management.

Teachers are also trained to teach students powerful learning and life skills that focus on literacy including: reading, writing, thinking, speaking and oral presentation, memory, spelling, vocabulary, test-taking, time-management and study skills, as well as character education, motivation and responsibility.
