SuperCamp Staff Profiles
Wondering what kind of people orchestrate the SuperCamp experience? Each of these energetic educators will lead one of our SuperCamp locations this summer.| Aileen Socrates Aileen earned a Spanish minor and double major in Communication and Theater at Wake Forest University, and a Masters of Education and Social Policy at the University of Notre Dame. She has been a high school teacher, student council moderator, and dance team coach in inner-city Los Angeles. Aileen loves unwinding with anything artistic - hip hop and salsa dancing, playing piano, acting -and enjoys traveling and learning new languages. She has been working as a team leader and facilitator with Quantum Learning Network since 1998. |
| Ben Balkwill Ben joined the Quantum Learning Network in 2003 and has held a variety of SuperCamp positions since then. He attended the University of Windsor, Ontario, where he earned an Honors degree in Business Administration and a Minor in Mathematics, in addition to his Bachelor's education. Ben has been teaching since 2003 and is a triathlon race director and advanced lifesaving course instructor. Winner of Disney's Partner in Excellence Award, he is the head coach of a swim team with athletes that range in age from six to seventeen. |
| Jen Tipton It was Jen's experience as a Senior Forum and a Quantum U SuperCamp participant that ignited her fascination with brain-based learning. After earning a BA in Cognitive Science at Occidental College in Los Angeles, California, she went on to earn her Master's of Education (with specialization in Creative Arts in Learning) at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A photography enthusiast, Jen is also a keen traveler who loves exploring new places and connecting with new people. She started working with QLN in 2000. |
| Karen Borbolla Karen Borbolla earned her teacher certification in K-12 art education along with her Bachelor of Fine Arts. She also has earned her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Most recently, Karen earned a postgraduate certification in brain-based education. She is married, mother of three young children and teaches elementary art by day and college level Para educator curriculum and theory classes by night. She enjoys her role as a figure skating coach, concerts and writing musicals. This will be her Fifth summer with Quantum Learning Network. |
| Kevin Davis A University of California Santa Barbara graduate of Interdisciplinary Studies in speech and language, Kevin has been working with youth for over 10 years. Recently graduating with a MA Education, he coaches high school soccer and just finished his school year as a sixth-grade teacher in Vacaville, California. Kevin has led SuperCamps since 2000 in the U.S. and many other countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, and Switzerland. He is an avid sports fan - watches all sports and plays golf - and enjoys traveling, movies, and mystery novels. |
| Liesl Pykles A graduate of Brigham Young University (BA Mathematics Education and MA Education), Liesl had the opportunity to design curriculum with NASA while completing her Master's degree. She was a high school math teacher for several years and worked with a diverse population of students. Liesl has been a facilitator with Quantum Learning Network since 2002, working with teachers and students all over the world, and is currently a full-time programs facilitator for QLN in Oceanside, California. An avid runner, she completed her first marathon in 2004. |
| James McConchie After attending SuperCamp as a high school student, James began working with QLN in 2001. Since then he has worked various roles at countless programs all over the U.S and across the world including Malaysia and Korea. James earned degrees in Psychology and Telecommunications from the University of Florida and is currently working towards a Masters of Social Work from Boston University. He also works at a community television studio, where he helps high school students to produce and manage their own cable station. |
| Cheyenne Correia Cheyenne has been with QLN since 2005. Cheyenne earned an Honors BA in Education from Westminster College, and two M.Ed. in Educational Diversity and Curriculum Instruction. From Las Vegas, she has been teaching elementary and secondary inclusion for the past 11 years. She also enjoys coaching cheerleading while being the student council and year book advisor. In her free time, Cheyenne loves to hang out with her animals, teach meditation, and write children's books. She is currently working on her Doctorate in Natural Health and Holistic Nutrition. |
| Nels Youngborg Nels began working with QLN in 2001 because of his empowering experiences as a camper. He has worked a variety of positions at SuperCamp across the globe. He attended the University of Rochester and graduated with a degree in Psychology, and minors in Business Administration and Theatre. After graduating from college, Nels and his father created a very successful public housing inspection company. For fun Nels is a student instructor at a kung fu school, renovates his 100 year old house, and attends improvisation/comedy shows whenever possible. |
| Amy Smith Amy has a degree in education from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. She has taught a variety of subjects, from fifth grade to eighth grade algebra and high school academic strategies courses. Amy works full time for QLN and spends her time traveling to train both teachers and students in QL strategies. Amy has worked internationally in such places as Hong Kong, Korea, Bermuda, and Indonesia. Amy loves dancing - hip hop, ballroom, and salsa are her favorites. She has been associated with QLN since 2003. |
| Ed Stanford Ed has been with SC and QLN since 1999. Originally from Minnesota, Ed has traveled the world working with kids and is currently living in the Philippines working at the International school of Manila. As a life long learner, Ed has graduated 3 different colleges with an AMI Dip, Art degree and M.Ed where he is now a education consultant. In his spare time, Ed loves spending time with his lovely wife (who he met at SC), working on his art and volunteering his time to less fortunate kids. |
